Unwinding at Night: My Full Shower & Skincare Routine

There’s something grounding about ending the day with a shower, especially at night after moving my body, whether it’s a late cycling class, kettlebell reps, cardio with And8 Fitness, or miles on my treadmill. It’s not only about washing away sweat; it’s about creating space to reset, restore, and prepare for rest.

I’d love to walk you through my evening routine, step by step, so you can imagine how nourishing a nightly ritual can feel when every part of you is given attention.

Teeth: Begin with a Clean Slate

I always start with my teeth. It keeps the flow of the routine clean and intentional. If you’ve ever brushed after skincare, you know how easily toothpaste or mouthwash residue can irritate freshly cleansed skin. Starting here avoids that.

First, I floss with Cocofloss, which feels gentle, but thorough. Then, I rinse with ACT Anticavity Fluoride Mouthwash to strengthen enamel and freshen the mouth. Next, I use my Oral-B iQ electric toothbrush, which keeps me mindful of pressure and then scrape my tongue using GuruNanda Tongue Scraper for Adults. Finally, I finish with the Smile Direct gel pen and blue light kit—something small that helps undo the effects of morning coffee.

It’s a ritual within a ritual, leaving me ready to care for everything else.

Face: A Gentle, Layered Cleanse

After a workout, my skin deserves more than a quick wash. I use a three-step cleanse that feels indulgent, but purposeful.

Each layer builds on the next, and the process itself slows me down, inviting me to breathe and reset.

Body: Smooth, Brighten, Restore

With exfoliating gloves and CeraVe SA Body Wash, I gently polish away roughness. Then, I use a lemon and turmeric kojic acid bar soap to brighten and even tone.

When I step out, I treat rough spots (i.e., elbows, knees, heels) with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid. While my skin is still damp, I smooth in almond and lavender oil. This step transforms the entire experience: the scent calms me, and the oil seals in hydration, so my body feels comforted, not just clean. *Right before sliding into bed a spray my feet with magnesium oil. Game changer!

Face Aftercare: Nighttime Nourishment

Returning to my face feels like the perfect closing chapter. A spritz of hypochlorous acid calms and refreshes. Then, Acwell Licorice Toner offers a gentle brightening.

On alternating nights, I shift between two treatments:

I finish with The Ordinary Natural Moisturizer + HA—uncomplicated, but just what my skin needs to stay nourished overnight.

Why It Matters

This routine is about more than products. It’s about creating a moment of pause, a rhythm of care, and a way to gently remind yourself that you are worth this attention.

At night, when the steam fades and the last layer of moisturizer is absorbed, there’s a stillness that follows. My body feels ready for rest, and my mind knows it has been cared for. The next morning, I don’t just wake up clean, I wake up restored.

A Note for You

You don’t need my exact steps or products to create something beautiful for yourself. What matters is finding the rhythm that leaves you feeling cared for, confident, and at peace. Maybe that means adding a nourishing oil, or simply giving yourself five extra minutes to slow down.

Whatever your version looks like, I hope you give yourself permission to make it a ritual—one that reminds you every night that you are worthy of the time it takes to care for yourself fully.
